Okay over the last couple days I've noticed my SHO running in the upper ranges of the word NORMAL (NOR but mostly OR), usually it runs MAL occasionaly R. I even took it out on the highway (no A/C) and it made no difference. I smelled for coolant and didn't smell any, I also checked to see it the fan was working, it was. There is also all kinds of heat from the engine coming through the firewall/floorboards, so much so that when winter hits I might not have to use my heater. wink The only other concern I have right now is when my rpm's are falling (like when I engage the clutch), they fall swiftly to about 1400 rpm's, then very slowly to idle  . Just a few things I have noticed lately and am becoming a little concerned with. Thanks for any help in advance. :D

my 93 mtx temp seems to wander anywhere from A to O as well. I am gonna do a new thermostat soon. I recommend you do the same.

There are a number of things to check.

First, has the coolant been changed recently? If not, it's a good idea. If it has been changed very recently, could be air in the system. You can "burp" the system by (while the car's running) repeatedly squeezing the large coolant hose that runs by/over the coil pack on top of the engine.

Next thing I'd check would be the t-stat. If it's been awhile, change it. Perfect time to change it is when you've drained some coolant wink While you're in that vicinity change out the temp sender that sends the signal to the temp gauge in your cluster. These seem to be problematic on the SHO.

Is your radiator original? If so there's a chance it's corroded from the inside out and all the corrosion on the inside has accumulated and is blocking the coolant flow. I've seen this happen on a couple of SHOs. I'd say there's a better chance of this being the problem if you haven't kept a fresh mix of 50/50 coolant/distilled water in your SHO.

Good luck.

What this is, is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). The VSS tells the computer that the car is moving. The rpms will ride up at the 1200 to 1400 range until you stop the vehicle.

What SHOman94 didn't add is that this is normal. See http://www.shotimes.com/SHO3idle.html
for details.
