alright, so i'm new the modding the SHO. My dad has had one forever, it was my first car, and i just used it to get from point A to B (quickly too). But yea i decided to paint my rims. I sanded them down with 220 grit wet/dry sand paper and got all the guck off it. washed it down, dried it in the sun etc.

So i went to spray paint, and i'm using the Dupli-color wheel coating. I followed the instructions my friend gave to me (same as on the back too) for preping the surface with sandpaper, etc. But when i'm spraying the paint on it's coming out very.. powdery. Like it's got occasional areas where there is powder fragments building up. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong either...

My main concern is, what is the difference between Wheel paint, and Wheel coating??? And did i F' up again...

Thanks in advance

OH you didn't know
Sounds like a problem with the spray can. That Duplicolor is good stuff. Try going back to where you bought it and exchange it. As far as the area where the paint is not right, wet sand it smooth and just paint over it.

I Just went repainting the inner part of my aftermarket wheel. I took them apart and cleaned the outer lip with mothers. The inner part was painted with Dupli-Color HWP104 Flat Black. I kinda wanted a SATIN finish but they didn`t have it in stock at the parts store. I will probably redue the wheels again with regular car paint and spray gun. The spray paint can kept leaking little droplets of paint which made me wet sand it a couple times.

After

I took the wheel apart because it was a real pain getting in between the bolt holes...

I just so happen to be going through this same problem with the DupliColor. :squint:

Needless to say, I would have been better off with a bucket of paint and a paint brush! :madflame:

Thats odd fellas. I wonder if they changed the ingredients or something? It worked flawlessly for me. In fact it was one of the best applying easy to use paints ive ever touched and it acted alot like powdercoating in that it seemed to be attracted to the wheels in a similar manner. If yall are having problems that are the same you might want to contact duplicolor and complain. I would see it odd that 2 people in the same time period have the same problem.

hmm.... are you guys that are having trouble ...are you all painting over top of the wheel with the wheel lying on the ground or did you stand the tire up then rotate to paint?????? i would assume with the wheel lresting on the ground you would be more likly to ge drip marks and extra build up also did you use primer

That's not the problem, the problem is that when you spray it, it comes out powdery and fuzzy. If you have a light coat on it, you can actual brush/rub it off with your fingers.
