I have a 91 sho and whenever I turn on the a.c. or the defog I hear a loud grinding or vibrating. Is it a condenser of some sort. Thanks!

It sounds like it could be your compressor bearings or clutch. Its located below the Alt on the same belt. A clutch replacement is not that hard. But the bearings are quite a bit tougher. For now if you don't want the AC coming on you can use the Vent function on your climate control or right beside and down low at the coolant reservoir theres a plug on metal tank. If you unplug this plug the AC will no longer engage. It will stay off until you get it fixed this way at least.

The a/c compressor bearings affect the defogger too? I can do without the a/c but the defogger is a must.

Sounds like your A/C compressor or the pulley bearings are failing.

The A/C compressor will cycle any time the temp is above about 50 deg. F and the climate control is set to anything except OFF, FLOOR, or VENT. The A/C system also helps to remove humidity from the air in the DEFROST settings.

Thanks your right. Thats why I always keep it on vent. How much does that run to fix?

Thanks again.
