Its hard to tell by your comments but ill tell you what my 89 did. It would start just fine all the time and then after a normal drive id go to start it while hot and it would just go wrr wrrr and not kick off. As if the battery were bad. Well i replaced the battery. No improvement. Replaced the sylinoid and cables, no improvement. Finally i replaced the starter and that took care of the problem and my car starts up so fast now its like a different car. My old starter suffered from heatsoak or something. I dont know if thats what your experienceing but i thought id tell you what i had encountered. Good luck with it :thumb:

No offense, but I'm having difficulty deciphering your posts. Break up your thoughts to help us out.

When the car doesn't start, try an ignition system test. The easiest would be a timing light on wire #1. Crank the car. If there's no spark, you most likely have a ground or heat soak issue with the ignition system.

Another really simple test is to check fuel pressure while the car is hot after it has been sitting for 15 minutes. If the pressure is low, you may be chasing a fuel pressure regulator or prime issue.

Remember, all petrol engines need fuel, fire, and compression to run. Which isn't happening for you?

If you really think you're chasing a starter issue, rap on the starter a couple of times with a wrench when the car wont start. If it fires up right away, get a new starter.

Good luck.

All this year, in the midst of summer. My car would would have starting issues when it was already warmed up. I got CEL's relating to the ignition (specifically, loss of PIP signal and tach signal). Since the weather has cooled down, it hasnt given me trouble starting yet. I'd bet good money, that once temps climb above 80 degrees next year, i wont be able to start my car after i shut it off (and it's pretty warmed up). Thats how it went this past summer.

Now i thought it was a CPS issue, but the car never acted weird until i painted my intake with duplicolor high heat engine enamal paint. I still believe that the paint on the crossover tube has some negative effect heatwise on the DIS module.

If you removed your DIS module when you painted the intake and did not use heat-sink thermal paste like you use in a computer on the back side of it when you reinstalled it, this could cause a heat related failure or malfunction of the DIS module as well. Just take it off, get some of the white goo from any computer store, put it on the back, and reinstall it.

I never removed the DIS, simply masked it off very carefully as to not get any paint on it.

I'll second this, and I bet it's your problem. If you let the car sit for a while, are you then able to start it up after it cools down? I had the same problem two summers ago, replaced the starter, and haven't had any problems since. It's also pretty easy to replace the starter, and you can change the battery cables while you're at it.

One way to troubleshoot a heat related problem is to cool off the suspect components. One fast way to cool things off is turn a can of compress air upside down and spray the liquid. I used this method to isolate an overheating chip on a circuit board.

I was having the exact same problem. When cold it fires up no problem. After driving it for a bit the CEL would come on. If I turned it off and tried to restart while it was hot it would crank for quite a bit before starting. I checked the codes and came up with a bad cam sensor. I replaced it and no more restart problem.
