NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

never never never never never never powerwash the engine!!!!! too many electrical components to *****, not to mention the possibility of totally farking up your engine.

If you want to clean the engine/engine bay take most of it apart and get in there with simple green, toothbrush and plenty of rags.

Cover the entire motor.

Don't power wash. I spray simple green automotive on the motor...wait 5 minutes then lightly spray down the motor with a hose.

Power wash will get water in plug wells and cause problemos.

Just letting you know, I have power washed my SHO's engine for 4 years with no problems. But some people have reported the exact opposite.

We used to do engine degreasing at work when I was at a detail shop. Not using anything more than garden hose psi and a quick squirt over the engine.

After numerous cars failed to start after this procedure it was canned, some cars needed some major repair work after too.

I personally don't reccomend it - but im not a professional and it isn't my car. So with that being said. If you do decide to do it, please be careful.

well i was asking to make sure cuz my friend power washed his SHO's engine and engine compartment and he had no problems at all. see i was gonna use the power washer around my engine to wash all the dirt off of the other stuff and lightly go over the engine. i have high pressure and low pressure, the low pressure is equal to a garden hose. should i attempt to just wash AROUND the engine or still bad idea ?

^^^I'm going with the Simple Green and rags route, but on the back of the bottle they said to hose the engine down after. How did you rainse the engine after? I'm going to wipe it all off after but will the chemical eat through any paint/clear coat or anything if I don't hose it down?

Its ok to hose the motor down, just don't use the presure washer. It isn't really necessary.

When I did mine Tyler and I sprayed the engine compartment down with engine degreaser, then scrubed everything with a sponge, sprayed some more cleaner on it then hosed it down with water(low presure). If it is smoking a bit after you wash it, it is just the degreaser burning off, no big deal.

I'll agree. GO with the engine degreaser and hose it off. Just make sure that the engine is cool or let it run a few minutes to WARM the engine NOT HOT!!! as it is possible to crack hot metal when sprayed with cold water.

Do it and I fully expect you to be posting in the engine and drive line trouble shooting section about your engine control system problems. You have been warned.

Yah, I did the degreaser/hose thing on my beater(92 Mitsu Expo) a few weeks ago and even though I was careful not to overdo it, I still had some issues with stumbling/loss of power until everything dried out. Funny thing was, I let it idle for about 15 mins after rinsing, everything was fine, then went for a ride - about 5 mins into the low-speed ride around town, the trouble started....I didn't stall, but limped into the nearest parking lot and sat there idling for 1/2 hr... Needless to say, I'll never do that again, 'specially not to the SHO.

I also power wash my SHO under the hood and have done so since I started driving SHO's over 13 years ago.

I take my car to the car wash, do the presoak with the engine degreaser and then wash the rest of the car while the engine is soaking. After washing the car I power wash off the engine. I don't hold pressue directly on the motor, but I do work ******* the engine bay and under the hood. I probably power wash the engine off once every 3 months of so. Knock on wood, but I have not ever had any problems.

Later,
Mike :)
