Im working on fixing up a 93 atx and have run into a strange problem related to the steering. When turning the wheel left (maybe right too, i just havent noticed), the wheel will give little pulses to the right. They are pretty faint, it just feels like a little tug to the right when im trying to turn the wheel left. It does it if its just sitting or while moving. It doesnt seem to be dangerous because its not too strong but its very annoying. Im thinking it could be the VAPS? I changed the fluid twice now and the problem still persists. If anyone could figure this out, i'd be very grateful because I havent found anything on the subject. Thanks
/Jeremy

LMFAO
It does sound like a vaps problem. There was a way to disable it and set it to more pressure or less. Whichever was more comportable. I need to hunt that up.

I have had that problems with a few Taurii now, including my 89 SHO, it's to do with the play in the spool valve inside the rack itself, only cure is to replace the rack, even then the remaned unit might do the same thing

amazing! It worked! Seriously though im not gonna make a habit of that. Anyway, thanks for the replies. If its gonna take a replacement of the rack to fix this problem then im just going to forget it. Im not planning on making this car perfect, just do enough to it to make an honest sale on ebay or the want ad w/o feeling like im ripping someone off.

while black fluid may be "normal" in older mileage SHOs it certainly isnt a good thing. If its black and smells kinda burnt then its time to flush the system and put in some new stuff.
