power steering fluid

im losing power steering fluid. i need to add some about every week and a half. if i need a new power steering pump, how much do those run for??

I'm not sure how much the pumps are, but they are a PITA to install from what I've heard. Do you know where your leak is? I would suggest that if you don't that you look into it before you buy a pump. A common leaking area and very simple repair is the cooling unit. It's located towards the front of the car's engine underneath. If you can locate the oil filter then you're right near it. It looks kindof like a master lock with two tubes attached to it. Mine was leaking horribly. It's only about $55 give or take a few $$.

Edit: Also check all the rubber connecting tubes to make sure they aren't the cause also...before you buy the cooling unit.

Bill,

If you're loosing that much fluid, there would have to be drips under your car when you park.

Put the car up on ramps or jackstands and start looking for the PS fluid.

My guess would be the cooler/hoses as mentioned, the quick disconnect fittings at the rack or the pump, or the rack itself. The pump would not be very likely unless you have leakage at the input shaft.

The pump, part number F3DZ-3A674-A, lists for $355.33 at your local Ford store.
