Hello, I have a ‘17 with 82000 miles. For about a month I’ve had an intermittent issue with the power steering failing. It doesn’t happen every time I drive, but will fail while driving or upon starting. It’s presenting two codes, u0420(81) and u3000(96). If I clear the codes it’ll usually go back to normal for while. Dealer said it’d be a month and a half before I could get it in and I leave for a deployment in two weeks. Any thing I should look for?

The codes refer to power steering control module errors. Check and see if there are any recalls on the steering. I think repair (according to earlier recalls) includes reprogram of steering module and probably replacing steering gear. You have access to any other ford or lincoln dealer? Also is the battery and alt output good? weak battery can cause all manner of issues in these cars.

u codes are communications issues so +2 on battery. sometimes tho, it can end up in needing to replace a module, in this case, inside the steering column.

Makes sense, should I go to a shop and get it load tested or something? Replaced it a couple months Ago with no issue.
