My Passenger side front actuator is just hanging inside the door, therefore the door does not lock or unlock. I can see on the driver's side door there is some rubber piece holding it in but the piece is gone on the passenger's side. There is just a hole in the door. What is supposed to hold the thing in? Has anyone been able to fix it?

The latch push button, the one on top of the door that yopu push down to physically lock the door, is connected to the latch with a rod. The rod fits in a lever on the door latch and is in a bushing that is nylon.

Look in the bottom of the door for your bushing. If it is broken the only place you can get a new one is from Ford (dealership parts dept). You could get a used rod and bushing from any Taurus/Sable out of a salvage yard (94 thru 96 should be the same).

I have never seen one of these rods fall out. Check your latch mechanism and look for a broken lever. Look in the bottom of the door for any "parts". rangerj

I guess maybe I misunderstood what you meant by "actuator". shrug I thought you were referring to the black box that's riveted to the inside of the door which "actuates" the rod rangerj's talking about, pushing it up or pulling it down to unlock/lock the door.

Sorry for any confusion.

ckinart,

I'm not sure I'm referring to the right part either. There are several "actuators" in the door for the latch mechanism. The one attached to the electric solenoid would not be hanging.

The lock cylinder to latch actuator would not prevent the door from being locked or unlocked by the power lock solenoid, but it would make the key useless if it were not connected.

The handle to latch actuator simply activates the latch to "open" the door and would not affect the locking of the door.

So, which actuator is he referring to? I guessed, based upon his description of the problem. rangerj

I just bought a 94 sho atx with the same problem only mine is on the drivers side. It looks like a rivet that hold the acuator that moves the rod up and down.
