It sounds like the mast has worn down. You can take an antenna mast from a 91-96 corvette and it will go right in. I say this because most parts stores carry that kind in stock and its cheap. If you take the cap off the base and have it raise up and pull at the same time, it should let you pull the whole thing out. The install of the new one would be just the opposite. Just fish it in until the teeth grab and pull it down. I did this on my other 3 sho's with great success. The plastic mast tends to break or get worn down pretty easy. -Karson

You can also grab a solid mast off a SLO taurus (junkyard) and never worry about it again.

Boo! Power antennas are cool! :)

I would highly reccomend www.antennamastsrus.com for them- I've bought 4 from them now for 4 different cars, and they are the bomb- good $, have it in about 3 days.

The Corvette mast works- I've done that too. :)

If you have a Gen III, I'm not sure if the Gen II mast will fit, I'm trying that right now- I came up to check my old wiring from when I added one to my Gen IV. The Gen III masts are pretty much non-existant now, and watch out for "calcar" on eBay- he sells them, then never ships them. I doubt he has them, and I've been looking everywhere for them. I figured I'd try a Gen II mast instead and see what it does.

if you dont get a chance to get the mast or are lazy and wanna fix it yourself... a cheap easy fix depending where it is broken is take it apart and if only a very small part like a couple inchs are broken off use a lighter and melt it to a ball so it cant pass threw the gears it will stop once it hits resistence.

i had to do this cuz i bought a whole new power ant and it did this to me and i was ****** about it breaking so soon so i just melted the end to make it work.

they add a lot to the plastic band so if you lose a little bit you will still be fine

when you replace it, its best to take the motor out and open it up, if it's broken off then putting a new mast in without removing the broken bits is just asking for it to get messed up again... quickly. unforunately, there's no way to remove the broken bits without taking it out, but that's relatively simple, remove the passenger front wheel (not necesarry but a heck of a lot easier), remove the rear side of the plastic wheel well, then you can get to the motor. you'll also need to unscrew the chrome piece on the top (needs a special tool, but i did it with a needlenose vice grips with the tips taped to prevent scratches) and then you can take the motor out the bottom. one little screw in the center opens it up but be careful because the plastic cord may spring out causing a gear or two to jump out of place, it's relatively straightforward to see where they go though.

Its all a lot simpler than that paragraph made it seem.:thumb:
