Hello all, I just bought the nicest car I've ever driven, a beautiful black 93 atx. Where the car was located when I bought it I couldn't really get on it too much as several of our 'finest' were right there. On the way home with it I did try to see what it'd do on some open stretch of road and this car really roars. I did notice what I thought was a severe problem though, on the 1st to 2nd shift, the tranny seemed to be slipping some and hunting till it finally shifted.
I called several tranny shops around the area and finally found a shop that from the way they talked had done work on these cars before so I took it in. Was expecting a rebuild of the tranny but got a phone call saying that it's fine, that I had a broken motor mount that was causing this problem....I dunno......not having knowledge of this possibility makes me wonder. Anyways, they just called today while I was at work and said it was finished, it was driven after the mounts and they say all is good. I'd like to get opinions of this from some experienced people. Thanx

I'd be a little skeptical. I wonder if they really got on it to see if it would slip. Sometimes a tranny won't slip under normal driving, but rear its ugly head at WOT. Unfortunately the 93's are the weakest, how many miles are on the tranny?

don't exactly know how many miles are on the tranny, do know that when I picked up the car today I couldn't believe the transformation of the shifting in the tranny by just putting on new motor mounts. I really was skeptical of what the shop told me but driving is believing. Now I can do some of the other things I was thinking about for my car with the extra change from not rebuilding the tranny. Thinking about a PP Y-pipe and a Ted B chip for starters along with new tires. This has made me more excited about this car as from what I've been reading I bought the lemon of atx's. Maybe I got lucky and got a good one.

It sounds like the front mount broke. My atx was launching and shifting like crap when the motor mount broke. Now the engine stays where it's supposed to be and everything is great since it was changed.

You're probably in for 2 hours of labor and $150 for the mount, right?

I have the same problem and I am ordering the mount from my local FORD dealership tomorrow, I know a kid there because of my frequent trips to the parts dept. Ill install and hopefully Ill have the same results.
