Looks like they are substituting Vulcan bearings, Sealed Power 7011MA or Clevite MS1702P, which would require line boring the block and caps to accept the 0.032 inch larger diameter. Not very many places do line boring.

The main bearings don't wear much on these engines, many just reuse them (check crank front to back movement is in spec). One other approach is to buy a reground crank from Crankshaft Rebuilders in FL, they will include main and rod bearing sets.

Finally, picking up a low mile 3.2 engine and freshening that up seems popular.

Perhaps I should have typed "know how to do line boring well". If the new centers are even marginally off the old ones, the oil pump won't line up, which can cause all kinds of problems. Older V6/V8, with shaft driven pumps, can tolerate the boring bar causing crank centerline to change a bit.

i remember a few years back at the ranger forums there was a guy selling sho crankshafts that fit vulcan engines. every machine shop i have gone too, they all have told me straight up that they cant work on it since the bearings and other parts are discontinued. One of these shops though said to just send bearing to swain coating to have them coat bearing with this special layer so they last as long as possible.

How many machine shops have you personally dealt with that could not properly line bore for you???

I've got 4 different sets of used bearings and you're more than welcome to pick and choose.
