I just (as of today) took ownership of my fathers '93 SHO, which has recieved 95k miles since he bought it new. Somewhere around 60k he had the 60k service as well as other modifications performed by some SHO guy in Atlanta, I will get a list from him later so that i know exactly what i have. the car is great except for one thing: one of the cv joints seems to be on the way out. when in a right hand turn, if you apply a bit of power, a tapping (clicking?) sound comes from the left hand side of the car. if this is indeed a cv joint going out, how expensive would it be to have it replaced, and what would be the best route (i.e. find the part off the internet and have someone install it, or trust them to be able to find the right part.) Thanks in advance, your help is much appreciated.

Rebuilt lifetime warantee from autozone 59 bucks a side. I just did one on my slo. I believe the sho cv is the same, if not, it still shouldn't cost much if any more. Also, if you have the place to do it and a bit of mechanical aptitude, do it yerself. Really not that hard a job.

SLO and SHO are different. They do NOT share the same CV joints. I just replaced my drivers' side last week, at a cost of $60 for a remanufactured one. If you let a garage get it for you, be prepared to pay easily $150 just for the part. Oh, and Autozone doesn't stock the CV joint for the sho. Autozone.com has it. I got mine at Napa. They stock them in their warehouse and can usually get them next day.

How about just the boot? I need a new outer cv boot for the passenger side. Where is the best place to get one. Does anybody recommend the kind you can put on without taking everything apart?

The kind you put on without taking off are plain and simply garbage. You can buy just the boot, but you still need to remove the spindle from the halfshaft to do the job. Much easier to just replace the entire halfshaft.

With the reman you also get new bearings and boots on both ends. And a lifetime warranty...Worth the $80 I paid for mine.

I ordered a set of MTX SHO axles a few weeks ago. The new passenger side axle was exactly the same as my old one but the new drivers side axle had a much smaller diameter shaft. They double checked the part numbers and it was the right one, according to their books anyways. It must have been a SLO axle because other than the shaft diameter, it looked the same as my old one. I had to send it back anyways because I wouldn't have been able to install my custom length shaft into the joints. The passenger side axle was the one making noise so it's no big deal for now. But when the drivers side finally goes out, I'm stuck getting custom axles made from www.cvunlimited.com
