So, sometimes, not all the time, when a take a turn (speed does not matter) the side I'm turning on sounds like it is "popping". I'm sure you all [who have encountered this] know what I'm talking about.

Would this be old/worn out struts or the control arms?

I'm about 135k miles and I don't believe the struts have ever been replaced.

The reason I want to know is if I should go ahead and buy the control arms along with my new struts or not.

It could be a lot of things depending on the "popping". If it does it while turning under accelleration, then it's probably a CV joint. Otherwise, it could just be a worn out end link. Good luck.

ball joints can also make the front end pop. you really need to get under the car and check everything. or take it to somewhere and ask them to check it out and not have them do the work and you would know what you needed.

When I hear popping on the Gen 3 I would guess either the strut bearings (especially when turning) or the front control arm bushings (probably need super tightened).

Did you ever figure out what it was? My SHO has been doing this since I bought it, so last weekend I decided to tear it apart and see what was up. My wheel bearings seem tight and my CV axles seem fine. I replaced the passenger ball joint since it was worn and the boot was shredded, both swaybar endlinks, but it looks like the issue is with my inner tie rod ends. If I grab the end of the passenger inner TRE, I can feel it move in and out with a soft "pop" sound, I imagine with weight on the wheels the "pop" is being amplified into a "POP" and causing my noise. I order new inner and outer TREs for both sides, plus the Lisle tool, which should arrive next week. Hopefully this will fix my problem, but even if it doesn't I'm sure the car will handle much better.

I haven't had a chance.. I'm still waiting for my front and rear sway bars, Alum. subframe bushings and struts to get here.

I will let you know though. I probably need inner/outer tie rods as well.

Daedalus,
Is the Lisle tool what you need to replace the Tie Rods? (Any other special things I need to know before I replace them?)

Yes, the Lisle tool is the one you need for replacing the inner TREs, as apparently the tool you can rent from Autozone won't work. I got the part number off of v8sho.com, it's Lisle #45750. The best price I was able to find was actually on Amazon.com, $53 w/ free shipping.

Other than that, I'm not aware of anything special that's needed to do TREs. With my luck I'll probably figure out what I need halfway through the job.
