Is this a good idea?

I will be doing my wheel bearings this winter break, and truthfully have no clue what this product even is?

So... Scam, or good idea?

Thanks.

Those are only needed if you have aftermarket wheels and the hub bore is too large. Many aftermarket wheels make the hub bore very large so each wheel can fit more applications. Then you just install those hub rings over your stock hubs to fill in the gap.

You want to know a little secret? Very few wheels are held in place by the hubs. It's the lug nuts that hold the wheel in place. The close fitting hubs just make it easier to mount the wheels. Don't believe me? Take a .003 (or close) feeler gauge and see if it fits between the wheel and the hub. It will fit, maybe not all the way around. That gap means no contact between the wheel and hub at that point, so it isn't holding the wheel centered. Stamped steel wheels do fit quite tightly on the hubs, but once the lug nuts have taken a set, they do all the work.
