i am polishing some brackets from a spare intake and i am almost finished a few of them... the question is: on my first one i started with 80 grit sandpaper and went to 1000 and i noticed that i can still see scratches:bonk:

did i start with too rough of a grit or should i keep sanding to 1500 or just keep sanding with the 1000?

any other tips to make this alittle easier would be helpful!!!
(just doing some brackets and bolts; not the whole intake thats just crazy :nut: )

for a future refence...How hard/long does it take to polish the valve covers??

thx,
Justin

I started with 220 grit, and worked my way out to 1500. I wet sanded from 800-1500. Then buffed it out. I would back track to 800 or so to get the scratches out and work your way back up. As far as polishing the whole intake and valve covers I did my intake and it does take alot of work, but it sure does look good. A mini DA is great for valve covers btw, and you can even get a buffing bonnet for it!

80 grit is WAY to course to start with. Start with 240 or 320, then go to 600 then 1000 then 1500 or 2000...

Yeah thats pretty close, and it takes a long while if you do it mainly by hand, but the finish quality is alot better IMO. I'll take pics later.
