Hey guys-

I've gotten a call from a buddy who is trying to work on a neighbor's SHO, and they pulled the plugs to do the vaskets, etc, and his question relates to using a sparkplug thread chaser. There is some gunk in the threads keeping the plugs from seating correctly, or even going all the way into the heads. Has anyone used a thread chaser on their SHO? He said that any of them he tried will not fit into the plugwells...

Thoughts?

He doesn't have internet access, so I'm playing middleman... :type:

Use a section of "tight fitting" hose to extend and turn the correct tap.

Then use a vacuum, with the small hose taped up to fit into the vacuum hose, to remove stray particles.

He said that the tap itself will not fit into the plug well on the valve cover. The tap is too wide. I guess he'll have to pull off the VC, because the only way he thinks he can do it is with a bottle brush or similar device, and that'll drop too much crap down into the cylinder... He was going to check them before putting the covers back on, but he didn't want to get any junk on the cams. Kind of sounds like a catch 22 to me...

Oh well, he'll have to figure it out!

NAPA has a tool that you insert into the cylinder. Then you spread out the threads and back the chaser out. Works great and the junk is brought out as you back the tool out.

No need to remove the VC.

I'll have to see if they have one of those that I can get for him and mail up there... Thanks for the tip, Paul!
