hi everyone,

this past week i have excperienced a weird problem in my 92 5 speed MTX SHO , which i really do not know and can not find it out what that problem is.. .

when i drive down the street where ever my car runs fine and every now then the check engine lite comes on and the idle rpms drop down to 500 rpm but the car doesn't stall and when you try to drive and move the car again it drives and moves but the rpm is to low and i hear some weird noises from the engine..( i know is nothing wrong with engine because thats the 2nd engine on my car that i droped in last april, 5 months ago and now it only has 82 K miles on it). i try to read the codes but they come on as nothing is wrong.

please can anyone tell me any info or sugestions what to do and react to this problem.
anything will be appreciated.

thanks
adi

Hard to say but the check engine light should trigger a code of some kind. If it really is the all clear code maybe there is a malfunction in the EEC?

i dont think there is any malfunction in the electronic engine control because when the idle rpm start droping to 500 RPM and stays there the check engine light comes on at the moments but after a while the cars goes back to normal and it's rpm's rich to normal run of 850 - 900 rpm. and the check engine light shutts off.
thats why i do not know what that problem causing the rpm to drop is..

The first thing I would check concerning the idle rpm is the iac/iab. These have been known to malfunction from time to time. Often you can remove it and give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner or something similar. Some units have small screws holding it together (which makes it easy to clean) and some are all 1 piece. I'm not sure if the 1 piece units are cleanable. I would still think a code would be triggered with a low idle ce light.

No. I would not recommend those. I haven't come across good alternatives that are any cheaper than the oem motorcraft.

The iac is located between the throttle body and the first intake runner. If you look at the intake picture at the top of the page it looks like a silver 2 piece cylinder with a black electrical plug. Maybe tough to see in the samll pic. There is a cleaning procedure outlined at http://www.shotimes.com go to the faq and look in the care and feeding section. IAB procedure. You will be able to easily identify it if you look at your intake.
