Guys,

My light flashes 4 times every ten seconds. The car has never been in a wreck and is babied. I have to say this happened after degreasing the engine about 3 weeks ago. I cleaned the motor and then brought the car up to operating temp. and then parked it. What could it be???????????? Please help. Mike (Oh, It's for sale!!!!!)

Here's what you do, go about 40 mph, and ram her into a wall. If you get hit in the face with a big white balloon, then it's working fine, if you don't, then go to the hospital, and after that, have that light looked at. :) bs

Well is it 4 time in a row or at different intervuls. Anyways you can go to www.showimes.com and you can decifer the code it is giving you for the airbag. At that point you can take it in or fix it yourself. I had to replace one sensor that cost me $1150 for the senosr alone. If it is being sporatic about the codes, then make sure when you take it in it is giving the codes as the computer doesnt store them. Hope this helps.

I get a lot of weird stuff after cleaning my engine. I don't remember if the airbag light was one of them.

On a related subject, should we take our cars to Frod to have our airbags checked out after a certan period of time? (like 10 years or so?)
Or does the system stay "ready" after that long?

Dude, calm down, I wouldn't sell your car because your air bag light is on. Go to shotimes.com to find out how to check the codes for the air bag system. When you find out, let us know. You may have a clockspring problem, crash sensor, or just an broke wire. Don't sweat it, I have both crash sensors if you need them.

I'm with Nook here. That's a crazy amount of money. The air bag system sensors can be replaced with salvage yard parts. In fact this system is a very common Ford setup and many other Ford cars use the same stuff. Future air bag sensor/processor repairers make a mental note and save yourselves some $$$.

94ATX,

A common cause of the airbag light coming on is a poor ground on one of the impact sensors. Another is a problem in the clockspring.

Look at a service manual for your model year and locate the impact sensors. The screw that holds them to the body is the ground.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING INVOLVING THE AIRBAG DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT ABOUT 30 MINUTES. The airbag system has a risidual power amount that you need to wait for it to bleed off.

Be sure to read, understand, and follow, all of the warnings involving the airbag in the service manual. If you are not sure you can handle it, or you are not sure you understand it, DON'T! rangerj
