Thanks for all of the input on my SHO stalling.

In regards to your advice:

Tach drops to zero immediately when car shuts down.

Tach does, however, increase to about 300rmp when starter is cranked.

I know because it happened again today and I checked. Talk about bad timing: I just had the water pump replaced about 2 months ago. Now this happens.

Thanks again
Craig

You need to pull the codes. If it was the CPS (CKP) sensor then you should not be getting a tach signal. Check for fire at the plugs when this problem is occuring. If your getting fire there than you need to start looking towards a fuel related problem.

Craig, Yes sounds like the classic CPS. It will just die, then after about 15-30 min the car will restart agian, if thats what its doing thats the CPS. I know first hand.

i'm in the same spot as you gigantor. my car wasn't starting after i shut it off. i ran the codes and 14 came up. The tach registered 300 but sometimes it would register 0. i'm replacing my cps today or tomorrow. can't wait to get my baby up and running. i've had to take the damn yellow big bird bus to school for a week :( it sucks. oh well. it'll be fixed. good luck with yours.

Yikes I got code 14, but the only starting problem I'm having is that on warm startup it'll rev and drop, rev and drop, rev and drop and stall out, if I try to keep it alive by any touch on the gas it'll immediately stall, however, after stalling out in traffic, and trying to restart, it does take about 3-5 seconds to restart as compared to just normally firing up when I start up

gigantor,

If you got a code 14 and the tach dropping to zero with the engine still spinning, then you have a failing CPS.

Denny,

Your idle surge sounds like an IAC valve with a dead spot in the control range. You can try to clean the valve portion first, but somehow I don't think that will correct the problem which I believe to be in the electrical part. You should also check for vacuum leaks such as loose or missing hoses or torque on the intake manifold bolts (11-17 lb-ft).

Thanks Scott, could it be that the IAC part of the intake is dirty then, where it meets the intake? The IAC is relatively new, replaced with the 60K service done a couple of months ago. The intake is bolted on well and as for hose connections, I can't find anything out of the ordinary, but then again, I'm not completely familiar with this engine yet
