I remember reading a post before that the pinstripes could be removed by 'goo gone.' I have tried this method, and after not being sucessful, searched this forum for that post. Suffice is to say, i couldn't find it. Now i was wondering... What other method can i use to get the pinstripe off? It is the 'sticker' type, and not the painted on one. I know once i get the sticker portion off, the goo gone will help remove the leftover stickyness. Any ideas? I am removing the pinstripes from new (almost rust free) doors i am going to put on my car. Exact color match. Thanks a bunch!

A hair dryer can help some times, but if it really old your just going to have to peel it off a small chunck at a time. I have had luck using credit cards to scrape at it a bit and the pulling it back at a very steep angle over to of its self very slowly. I got mine off in 6" to 8" long chuncks on my '90 like that.

yeah, Use a hair dryer to heat up the pinstripe small sections at a time. Too much heat and the pinstrip will melt and rip.

You can use either lighter fluid or paint thinner to remove the adhesive. Small amounts in a rag will not hurt the paint but will probably strip any wax you may have.

I hate pinstripes and remove them from all my vehicles

ya, I hate pinstripes too. I think they look terrible, and if any damage is ever done to the side of your car, they cost a lot extra to be painted back on.

I wish I could take the pinstripe off my Sable... They are painted on and as if that isn't bad enough they aren't even straight. I'm just too lazy to sand and buff them out!

Thanks for the help everyone, we'll see if i can't get these bastards off once the weather decides to warm up again. They were painted on my 87 Taurus, but at least they were pretty straight.

If the pinstipes have been on the car for a long time like a period of 8 years I wouldnt remove them. My black SHO had pinstiped on it from when it was new. I had it removed when I bought the car and you can see that the black paint is ever slightly faded where it was removed.

goto an auto parts store..... a REAL parts store...and ask for a 3M stripe off wheel....

i say REAL parts store..because advance auto and autozone don't carry them......

this is something ANY body shop would have.... its a rubberized wheel that you mount onto a drill or other rotary type tool and it will get rid of your stripes in no time....

Use a slow drill... it is very easy to "burn" the paint with one of those.
