I recently went through some older threads (Hamel's caliper BBQ thread  ) and I heard some disturbing comments made on these pads....

I am running 11.6'' rotors with cobra calipers, so i have alittle more lee-way with tEh heat... but this still makes me think twice about these pads.

I have yet to track the car, but its going to see some in the future sometime... but in the mean time, i want to make certain that im not going to fry my cobra's with these on some spirited runs.... :oogle:

Regular off the shelf (non-Z) PFCM pads on 11.6" rotors? I would not run these at the track. They won't hold up.

Suckiest pads ever...

Don't like?

HPS or plus, whatever the track version is. Pretty good pad. Dunno about the street pad variant (that may have been what I referred). Did some laps in an M3 with them, :thumb:

I have personally run the Panther's and they do pretty well (as good as you are going to get for OEM 11.6 brakes with big heavy cast iron calipers).

yeah I know I just wanted to see what you would say. I read track duty and I was like "yeah the torino will never see that day unless its a straight line."

*cough* Cobra calipers *cough*

:type:

These PFCM's are doing the job very well, dont get me wrong.... However, I wa concerned about the Cobra's after seeing what Hamel did to his. (but then again, that was on the 10.9's)

I think i'll look into some Panther's.. you got a link Mark?

Problem with PFCM is that they are 601 pads, physically fit the caliper but do not offer the proper height (swept area) of the 598 pads (right size for 11.6 inch rotor). Said another way the 601's are correct for the 94/95 11 inch rotor.
Have used the HPS extensively in autoX and at Lime Rock track. On a real cold morning you have to lightly press the brake to warm them up in your first 0.1 mile after that fine

HP Plus pads seem to have a poorer reputation, both on street and on track.

SASHO, do a search on "swept area". If you are running 601 pads (like PFCMs) then you are giving up substantial heat transfer area . . . . meaning your brakes will overheat sooner than if running the 598 pad (roughly 20% sooner but I'm not going to do the math for you)

I ran Hawk HPs (not pluses) at a road track event in Nov. I beat the **** out of them (Cobra Calipers) with no brake fad. They grabbed great!

I've heard the Plus are dusty dusty dusty.

That doesn't apply to him because he has Cobra calipers on the 11.6" rotors.

Use up what you got and step up to a better pad when they're done.

Read post #5 in this topic on this subject.

http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=66049&highlight=Performance+Friction+pad

Before I installed the '96 brake upgrade on the old girl, I used the OEM 10.2" rotors and PFCM pads to run a few track events. These were not races, but I drove the car hard. The PFCM pads never faded and the rotors never failed. The rotors did develop surface heat stress cracks, but were replaced under their lifetime warranty. The rotor temperatures were measured at Texas World Speedway by in infrared sensor after a seesion with no cool down lap and a quick pit entrance. The rotor and caliper temps were 850-900F and the pads did not fade. The PFCM pads work well when bedded in as designed. The rotors must be properly embedded with the carbon particles from the pads before track use. There are articles about this process that can be used to ensure any pad material operates at its optimum.

I've run HPS(Street Pads) and HP+(heavy duty street/light track) and I really liked both.

I kept the HP+ on the car and I haven't had any problems. After the first stop or 2, the pads work great.

I don't know why Hawk HP have a bad rap here, they've been great to me and others I know that use them.
