I'm pretty sure that I need to bleed my brakes as of starting today, the pedal goes to the floor. Is there any special procedure I need to do on the car? Can I bleed them w/out taking off the tires?

Please bleed brakes AFTER you find and replace the leaky part.

Edit, sorry for being a smartalic. If your foot goes to the floor, there is most likely a leak somewhere. Park it and find the leak(or verify that there is none) before putting it back on the road.

As for bleeding, The search button will tell you more, faster than I can. Searching for "bleed", half way down the page, I found this: http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=71505&highlight=bleed

Acually, I have what I believe is a sized caliper in back that has a very slow leak. I have been keeping an eye on it for the most part, but I guess I forgot to check the fluid recently, and I guess air got into the system. I plan on fixing the caliper before I bleed the brakes.

Just replace the whole damn caliper. They're like $90 from advance and are ridiculously easy to replace.

Update

Well, I took it to a shop today. I'm gonna need new pads and rotors on sides (rear) and a caliper on the left side. I was quoted just under $300. is that a fair price? I had both rear brakes done and one wheel cylinder replaced on my old Cougar a few years ago and that cost me around $150, but then agian, that had drum breaks in the rear. P. S. I found out my E-brake cable popped off on both sides, hopefully, they will put that back on for me too.

Have them do both calipers and then you don't have to worry about your back brakes...better yet...have them do the flex lines too.

If it ends up costing $450...so be it...at least your entire rear brake set up is done and done right.

Hey at least it did that in a controlled environment. My truck decided to blow out a hard line when I was downtown Indianapolis, doing about 45 MPH. Im glad I was on an outside lane, the curb wasnt too large, it is a 5 speed, and my parking brake is cable driven. Only then that saved me from smashing up a few cars that day! It was kinda cool too, the road made a sweeping left turn so it was easy for me to just drive off, and pop that curb, downshifing all the way and put that parking brake cable to the floor, skidding the rear end, until she came to a stop. The best part is that I stopped in a brake place!!! Bad part was he had no hard lines, and it was 4:45 on a Friday, he did think it was pretty cool how I 'showed up' . Said he seen the whole thing. He thought I was nuts too, because I drove it to Midas a few blocks away to get it fixed.. :) He wanted to tow me there, but why would I give him money when he wouldnt fix it in the first place. :)
