Ford called me today and they think my PATS module is bad because it won't program new keys. $680 to replace.

They even said it may not work and they might nerd to replace the transceiver after that.

What is more likely broken, the module or the transceiver?

If the transceiver is broke, then the module wouldn't be able to program keys, right?

Could be the PATS module, or still a PCM problem. First I'd try flashing the PCM back to stock with the tuner. If that works you've pretty much eliminated the PCM as the problem.

If you screwed up the lock cylinder antenna ring that would certainly cause a problem also.

If you can flash the PCM back to stock, I'd recommend getting PATS shut off in your tune and then you'll never have to worry about it again and it will surely be cheaper than having it repaired.

Alternatively, try to find a matched PATS module, lock cylinder and keys out of a '96-'97 car (any Taurus/Sable w/PATS) and swap them in. '96-7 are unique in that all the PATS stuff is contained within the PATS module so they're not tied to the PCM.

Also, creating new threads every day is counterproductive.

Good stuff, thanks for the info.

Yes, creating multiple threads is bad, but they are for different things, I was thinking more on the lines of people searching to could the results easier for different symptoms.

Ended up being the transceiver. I'm not sure how they ordered a part for it, since everyone else discontinued it apparently, but it was $139.99.

On a side note, I must have got the newbie mechanic or something, because I had to return it twice for broken fuses. I'm not sure how they managed to blow like 5 fuses, but they did. I mean damn, the first time the Speedo or radio wasn't even working/turning on. These second time my cruise control and blower motor.. amazes me.

Watch out Nick, the Ford Fascists might jump on you for exposing their beloved dealerships . . .

Were you able to get insurance to help out?

Unfortunately no, only have liability =| and the deductible on the home owners insurance was higher than what it cost to fix.
