Krylon makes a paint called "Fusion" that works really well on plastic. They claim it "molecularly bonds" with the plastic. I've used it with pretty good results. There is also a paint specifically for plastic trim but I can't remember what it is called.

I used that adhesion promoter with duplicolor gloss black engine paint and it came out great. You just have to do it at the right temperature and humidity. I painted mines in the basement where it was around 72 degrees and I dampened the walls and floors to prevent dust from falling into the paint and it helps with the humidity part. Paint tends to bubble up if it is too cold and it takes a lot longer to dry. BTW mines has been painted for about a year not and there has been no chipping or flaking, still looks fabulous :thumb: .

SEM is the best IMO. In my job we do ALOT of console modification and fabrication with plastic that is expected to look OE. We use SEM color coat. If you clean the surface, use the prepspray and primer, paint and use the sem clear coat. It will last as long as an OEM finish, and look almost identical.

There are 2 problems:

1. There is a coating applied to the console from the factory to give it a "soft feel. If it comes in contact with certan solvents it will bubble and come off.

2. You sprayed too heavy of a coat and the solvents in the paint melted the coating and made it bubble. Cheap paint will do that also (it's mostly solvent)

About the only way to fix it is to CAREFULLY strip it with paper towels soaked in laquer thiner. Keep the towel moving and you should be able to strip off the new paint and the old coating.

The prep is VERY important....That surface has to be clean.

You beat me to it! Prep is key. I have painted parts in my interior blue. I cleaned them and used a thin coat of primer and then used ford blue engine paint. It came out great!

^ Same here only I used multiple coats of duplicolor and a light spray of clear.
