I did an engine swap in my 91, with a 91 block, so everything should be fairly straight forward.

I had the car running for about 3 weeks, when it started smelling a touch like coolant and getting a bit warm.

So I replaced the water pump which seemed to be leaking a touch, just from the gasket but put a new pump on anyways. When I filled it with coolant I could only fit 4 quarts in. I replaced the thermostat the next day, but still could not fit any more coolant in.

To check for any blockage, I disassembled all the hoses and ran water through the rad, and the block, and it seemed to flow fine through both.

Anybody had any problem like this before or have a clue what is going on?

The V6 SHO motor is very difficult to purge of air. But if the system is tight and free from leaks it will purge it self over time.

If there are no noticeable leaks I would suspect the radiator cap. Be sure to check the drivers side radiator tank for leaking. it will show up at the bottom of the radiator near the drain ****.

Same thing happened to me when i had my engine swapped.

Take the radiator cap off, and let the engine run and get hot, then just keep adding coolent and squeezing the top coolant hose, but wear a glove...

Hopefully that helps!
