the land of the setting s
the button directly below the shifter lock button on the shifter. it sets the transmission for through town or at highway speeds. if you are having transmission bump issues this is a good way to reduce any neck or back problems.:omgsho:

... if you are having transmission bump issues ...

there was a thread about this last week. the bumps have to do with running over cats or bunnies. nothing to do with overdrive.

that is all.

Honestly my 93 has a harsh 1-2 shift and when I turn off the overdrive it does absolutely nothing to help that when traveling at low speeds. My car still shifts at the exact same times and exact same harshness. The only thing the OD off button will do is not allow it to shift into 4th gear (or shift it out of 4th gear if it is already there) and I think it does something to the torque converter. So..........i don't really understand this thread.........

Actually, when I'm in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic I'll shift it down to 1. But I try not to leave it in first for a long time and as soon as the speeds get over 15ish I'll shift it back into D.....but I don't mess with it just driving around town.

Mine also has a hars 1-2 shift, specially when in light throttle. Sometimes also from P to D it makes a harsh shift, sometimes it doesn't.

Lastly also when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd in light throttle sometimes will do the harsh shift.

The overdrive in my car does engage, but it will disangage shortly after and remain in the last speed.

You really think the shift harshiness has to do with the torque converter?

I don't know whether I'm offended by this or taken aback......

With my car the transmission shifts harsh from 1-2, when cold. When the car fully warms up the shift gets a lot better and pretty much goes away (but I can still feel it.) I don't really think that the torque converter has anything to do with it, cuz I don't think it engages at low speeds. I honestly don't know whats wrong with it, I'm far from a transmission expert. haha
