...I've noticed the Overdrive indicator lamp on my '93 ATX SHO does NOT come on when I press the O/D button on the shifter. (also, when doing so while driving, I can't tell if pressing the button is actually taking the trans OUT of overdrive)

Any insights??

If you press the O/D button doing 40-50MPH you shoud notice whether the transmission is in O/D or not. If you don't notice it then most likely the button isn't working. I would start but removing the top part of the center console and seeing if the O/D wires are intact or damaged somehow.

Probably the ultra thin wires going to the button on the shifter broken.

x3. On the back side of the shifter there is a staple. Pull it out and then pull up on the shifter handle carefully as to not break the wires that lead up into the handle. Then remove your console pieces to find where the wires connect into a harness plug in the rear of the console - check the length of the wire for a break. I just spliced mine back together with a crimp connector.

All great ideas guys. I'd much rather find it to be a malfunctioning button--- than something in the tranny!
