Just pulled the original AWSF-32FM plugs out of the V-8 and measured the gaps which came out at 0.050. Is that right? Didn't think that Ford would recommend a gap that wide. They have a little over 70,000 miles on them so could normal use account for it?

That is ~.006 over factory spec. I've seen a lot worse with 70k on them.

Very normal.

The new thin wire plugs with the larger gaps are fine and probably even improve combustion. The thinner wire reduces required voltage to jump the gap and the increase gap strikes more fuel particles and starts the jump in cylinder pressure faster which equates into more usable power. Its a good thing. As long as the coils are in good shape to drive them...

Your advice is fine for the plugs YOU are talking about.

The OP's question and part # reference a different plug, the original ones that came from Ford with the car.
Still, the recommended gap for the new fine wire plugs is acceptable/proper at .044
