Unfortunately we are going to be getting rid of the wifes 2010 as we have a 3rd baby on the on the way and can't fit all the darn car seats in the SHO, anyhow just left a Chrsyler dealer and they offered 27.5K trade in on her 2010 Metallic Red SHO with 15,500 miles on it. Has about all the options minus the performance pack, 20" wheels, heated/cooled seats, navigation, backup camera, HID headlamps, rear screen etc.

Have any opinions on what is realistic for trade in? KBB shows values higher but they dont seem realistic based on the quick research i did on ebay/craigslist etc.

ALso, i live in the boonies and selling it when i live 30-45 minutes from most people will make it rough to sell myself lol.

I purchased my car last week which is pretty much identical to yours with about 1000 fewer miles for $31,000 from a Dealer. Shop around you may get a little bit more but yes you're
going to take a big hit.

I just bought a 2010 SHO w/13000, PP, seats, etc. for $32k. The dealer needs to make a buck, so I'd say $30k is fair. If you want more, then sell it yourself. It's the choice you have to make, sell it for retail and you'll have to work a bit more for the money. Wholesale it to a dealer and they take the risk of making the $$. Seems about right to me.

Thats about what they can buy one for in auction, its also very hard to sell a anything pp above the 20Kish range.

$30k would be the lowest I would go on a trade in. Tell them you want $33k and meet somewhere in the middle. They are going to get low $30's for it.

Have you looked into an Ecoboost Flex? How about the ecoboost Explorer? I havent seen the inside so i'm not sure how much bigger it is. I would take either of those over anything that Chrysler is offering.

talk about a sad day when trying to trade in the twin turbo ride for a freaking MINIVAN!
27.5 seems a bit low, but I doubt they will offer you more than 30K, if it is the case, then they will rip you off your purchase...
When you leave the car, you are applying it against your purchase, so you are saving taxes, which depending where you live can be around 2K$.
Also, they are taking the risk to get what they have in mind and the time that they have it, they need to pay interests on the money they gave you, so if the SHO stays in their showroom for let's say three months, that is another 500$ of interests.
Plus the car will be taking the place of another car if inside, or they will need to maintain it clean until sold if left outside...
They are going to do the paper work the test drive the credit survey on the buyer etc.
So, all that together is worth imo a good 3K$.
Also, they need to make a profit on one side or the other... 1,000$ is more than fair, so all-in, I guess if you really think you can get more than 31.5K, try to do it yourself, but I think if you can push them to give you 29K, that's about it... Believe me, I know the maths and I have been purchasing many cars for friends, colleagues and clients.
Good luck and congrats on the third kid!... Maybe if you return to the Ford dealer they can get you a better deal and find you a used Ford Flex...? That's what I would do, the fidelity to the dealership should pay off and you will look better off in a Flex than a Dodge Caravan! lol

For whatever reasn the wife thinks the flex is really ugly. I was also think 29k on the trade in would make me quite a bit happier.

The Flex is a hat or love, no middle... Maybe the new Explorer would pass better, but to find a used one might be more difficult... G/L again!

Explorer is nice, but the third row has zero leg room and with car seats in second row would be a pain to fold down,, I hate to admit the freaking minivan makes the most sense. I hate chrysler by the way,but won't by foreign either

Makes sense... My second car, the family one is a 2008 Taurus X Limited. It was tagged at around 45K$ CDN and bought it a year and a half ago (in May 2010) in a dealer at 16,700$... It only had 35K miles on it, so I purchased an extra warranty for 3 years 36K miles for 2K$ and I have almost a brand new car with the same peace of mind... They do lose a lot $ the first year! But I agree that if I had a third kid, the third row would not easily be accessible... Go minivan go! Or buy a used one and keep the difference in $ to rent a sport car some weekends to have fun!

dealers make most of their money on used cars, and thats cause its their job to give you as little as possible for your car in trade. kbb and nada are there to protect you. Mine shows somewhere around 35k in value. 27k is a major insult if you ask me. its a 40k+ car for cry it out loud. If they are going to sell it for 32 or so, offer them 31. screw the dealership, trust me, theyll try to screw you.

Ok no one said it, I will say it: Did you try Carmax? I priced a car there once I was selling and believe me what they were offering was more than any dealer offered in trade. Note: I did eventually sell it private party for like 2k more but the offer was better than several dealers would give me for trade is the important part.

I also agree low 30s seems to be the going rate. Again do the reverse: head to carmax.com and look up SHOs they have some lately when I look...all pretty consistently priced.

ebay it, it will only cost about 100 bucks to see what REAL market value is on a 7 day auction. I had to do it with my 2009 G8 GXP and I was pleasantly surprised that an enthusiast about 1000 miles away, LITERALLY, paid what I wanted for it. Keep the forum posted if you do. I think you may be happy with the outcome, because I was with my previous cars sale.

I tried CarMax twice, both times I took the offer to my Dealer and they matched it after offering less earlier.
