Whenever i put my open cone filter down in my fender and seal it away from the engine heat the car pulls like crazy for a while especially on the highway but if i park it right away and wait 5 min go to start it and it will start and die it takes me a hour before i can even keep it running. Keep in mind when i do this i am not reseting the computer on the car so it can learn to idle with the open cone on there instead and i supposed to reset it?

You got a picture of this setup?

I'm not suspecting the CAI at this point...maybe a vacuum leak after the MAF sensor.

When it dies, does it act like its flooded, no fuel, no spark, etc?

Sounds like a fuel pump. My car would run great started cold, but once it got warm if I turned the car off it'd take half an hour to start again! Replaced the fuel pump and the problem went away.
