Well I really bought this car to do as a show car for a sweet system which I've been piecing together for almost a year now. It's been on stand still a few times waiting on different parts, including trying to get the car driveable which was first priority....
Here's some pictures of my work, this is my first experience fiberglassing door panels, it came out phenomenal. I haven't figured out what I want to use to cover/paint it with yet though, so I'll take any suggestions on that =) I won't finish it though until I decide if I'm going to add more speakers or not.
My first idea was to put 6 1/2 woofer, 8" woofer and 2 tweeters in... but the 8's were being built and taking too long, so I decided to give the 6x9's a shot and see how they sound. Supposedly they sound as good as the components I had in there, which was crystal clean.... I ran 2 sets of them in my truck and wow is all I have to say, if they come close I'll be happy

This first picture is the start for my door panel template

The start of my box, it ended up not fitting in the trunk and I decided to go with mdf instead of particle board. The subs are 40lbs each, that's a lot of weight for particle board, but I did a double face and bracing later anyways.

Here's the bracing I used/built for the box I have in now which I had to build INSIDE the trunk, that was tons of fun lemme tell ya
I ported the box with a 6" port straight through the back deck... it should be frickin LOUD

This is the barrier strip I put in, I ran 16ga back, it's a lot easier to run than the stuff I hooked in which is a 3 strand 14ga wire made by Rockford. I had 4 sets of wires run to each side, 2 tweeters, 2 woofers. All was going to be run active.

Here's the start of the door panel following what I have completed so far, which I was able to lay some body filler "bondo" but I used evercoat

I cut that post off because that was a lot of pics, by the way the car in the background is not the sho it's an ****** of my brother in laws that's being worked on. I'm also doing a set of door panels for it at the same time... I learned the hard way on his not to use fleece with expensive resin cause omg it sucks up A TON of it. I thought it might make it so it would be hard enough to not have to lay more glass down... but I was wrong.

I'll post more as I go, like I say it's a work in progress. I'm really happy with how it's going so far for the door panels at least. The trunk has been a pain in my @#$!@

so I ripped out my old install, and started over in the trunk. I did 1 12, with a cool sho emblem in vinyl.

I fired the sub forward this time to avoid some trunk rattle, and hopefully better sound =)

I mounted the amp next to the sub to hide this one, not that it's ugly it was just easier since I'm running 3 amps.

here we're making the sho emblem which was a rubbing from the trunk emblem

and here's where we stopped with box and amp rack complete, just need to finish the flooring but I have decided what to put there yet

Nice look on the box. But I can't stop looking at the ****** Gt lol my brother had a 91.
That one looks like a 91 or 92 but I can't see the spoiler to tell for sure.

if you're aiming the sub into the cabin and porting into the trunk, you'd do well to seal off the trunk from the cabin, otherwise you're gonna have some cancellation. check out DIYmobileaudio.com and read up over there a bit.

Follow up post, since I was half-awake when I wrote that one.

You're likely gonna lose output with the sub facing forward like that. It's been proven time and time again that the best output comes from the sub and port on the same plane facing the rear of the trunk. My plan is to build either a 4th order bandpass ported through the factory sub hole or a 1/4 wave transmission line. I'll post a build log once I get started.

Really diggin the SHO emblem. How'd y'all do that? Also, what kind of subs are those?

Uh as far as the sub direction goes it kinda depends on what you're doing. If you leave the seat out it will sound better facing forward, and it will get deeper with windows cracked open a bit so the sound waves have more room to not hit a reflection and cancel it out.

Sealing the trunk would not be a smart idea, most of the sound from a ported box comes through the port... the port is fired directly up the back deck right off the back glass to create a hatchback effect. That also makes a difference on which way the sub is facing also since the port is handling a lot of the sound.
a 30hz note is approximately 38 ft long so the reflection from facing towards the rear does give more time for reflection and the notes to not cancel each other out.
As far as proven goes I certainly disagree with that, it's kind of hit and miss what is going to sound better in different cars. There was certainly a reason that I built the box the way I did... I'm good with that, it's definitely not wrong. It's more of a preference. I did have it faced the other way before, but it didn't work with the look I was going for.
