I have a Kicker s12d sub that I got a while ago complete with an enclosure, but I don't have an amp. I was thinking of picking up a used amp, but I am not sure what to look for in it, or even if it is worth it to drive this sub. Any thoughts? The specs say I need at least 450W RMS.

You've gotten no answers so I thought I'd just chime in.

In any audio application, it is a good idea to use an amp that is capable of putting out more power than your woofer is rated for...this leaves ample head-room so the amp is not always straining to power the sub.

With that said, most times you can get away with a less powerful amp if you don't blast it 100% and expect things to stay alive. ;)

Buy a good quality amp that has an output rating at or at least near what the subwoofer is rated for.

The S12D is an old-school Solo-Baric by the way.
