My car is triple black, and uhhh yea.. I changed my mind on the A/C delete thing.. maybe I'm getting old  My A/C looks pretty sad, and is out of a charge. I got smaller valves, so I'm screwed there too. Do I just have to 'cut-out' the old connectors, and install new ones? Or can I use hoses / bulk pipe, to fab some of that crap?

My question is this... are say a 93 Slo A/C Compressor the same p/n or compatible with a 92 SHO ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170004757641&fromMakeTrack=true

Or maybe someone has a decent setup they arent planning on using?

Thanks again guys :thumb:

I think the compressors are different but I could be wrong. Call up autozone or some place like that and ask them if there are different compressors for a 92sho and a 93 taurus:thumb:

The other thing is, what can i use during a compressor swap. I hear that I should replace the accumulator, but I'm seeing all kinds of parts lists. Napa has more pics, and thats kinda where i'm trying to get an idea, but dont know what parts i can reuse. The fittings should all probally be changed, so I might need a lot. IF I want to semi- put this off until warmer months, can I install the pump, and just leave it disconnected, until I get everything together? This looks like about $500 so far.. :(

You need a Nippondenso 10P15F compressor.

All the lines and accumulator are available aftermarket (some are for R-12, but brand new with an R-134A adapter is just as good) except for the manifold lines which any hydraulic shop should be able to reman as new for you.

Well, what is the cost on filling those? I suppose I could keep the R-12 system? If I get the other adaptors do I have to get my system flushed? I know a/c systems can be funny, and I don't have a clue. I'll start lookin for the peices. Thanks for the name.. I kept finiding FS10, but thats a lot easier to search for I'm sure.. thanks!

$400 on rock auto, i just fell outta my chair.. :( Ummm do those magnetic clutches really wear out.. lol I dont really think there is anything wrong with the system, it just looks old, and hasnt had a charge. What do you think my luck would be just filling it. How much would that cost / waste if it had a leak.

well the old school r12 is like 48? dollars or something a pound..could be more, its been a couple of years since i had the probe refilled...and its just getting more and more expensive, basically it hasnt been produced in like a decade..whats left is all there will ever be. so save money now by trying a recharge,or just spend the money now to avoid having it recharged, leaking and having to convert anyways...just my humble opinion

I would convert to R134a, Autozone has a great warranty (lifetime) on compressors, Buy a accumulator, and retrofit it. Just make sure you use less r-134 than r-12 as r-134a is heavier, usually about .25 lb less.

Find a small mechanic shop and have them charge the R12 system with Freeze 12. I had a SHO without A/C for about 4 years, then decided to charge it up and see what was wrong with it since I noticed the bolts holding the lines to the compressor were loose and it wouldn't hold any charge like that. Cost me $25 to put a vacuum on it for like an hour, then $12 a can for the Freeze 12 installed.

my mechanic charged me 125 bucks to do the conversion on my car... I was kinda ****** cuz he didn't ask me all i asked was to recharge my R12 system o well... if you do it yourself make sure you clear the system of r12 completely or you're going to have problems. I think you can use water but im NOT 100% sure im sure someone here knows how and will chime in.:thumb:

Would I have to change the oil too? How can you get all the old stuff out? Flush it with new stuff, then drain, and add the right amount?

You can't really drain the system. I'd just throw some Freeze 12 in there and see if it holds. It's just as cheap as R134a and you don't have to worry about converting anything.

it's to bad you don't live closer, i have a red-tek kit for re-filling and sealing, and leak testning a/c systems, there are available at part source for around 100 dollars, comes with the r13 adaptors, and the filling hose as well as 3 cans, 2 r refrigerant, and 1 is a seal conditioner.

Well... ontario isn't that far ya know. :) Hmmm... I may have to go up north and check out the falls sometime in the spring.. :)

The other thing I'm putting off is the heater core.. it dosen't need it yet.. but I know how these things are.. if thats all I don't replace, thats what will leak. :)
