Tonite after putting on about 365 miles, I am making my way back home. Just as I enter town, Im cruising along at ~40 mph when I see the oil light flicker a little bit, then go off. Im like "ok? I dont know what that meant." Then I get further down the road. Stop at a light, everything is normal. I take off, accelorate a bit and BAM, the temp gauge goes from "L" in normal to past the N! Instantly and smoke rolls through the car and its smoking terribly... Im not very far from home I get around my corner and shut the car off and coast. Its smoking really badly!
I got out the light and it looks like the coolant came from behind the engine? It seems to be dripping right by the left subframe mount? Thats where it seemed to be. IT was however all over the bottom of my car, it was dripping all the way back, on the exhaust and such. :(!

There was a few signs tonite that something might have been wrong.
1. On the way home the "low coolant" light came on. No biggie, I stopped and filled it up with premixed 50/50 coolant when I got gas.
2. Later on I noticed a bit of smoke coming from the engine compartment, I thought it was some coolant that I had spilled cuz it wasnt alot of smoke and it went away, plus I smelled the burned coolant.

Other than that it was running fine tonite! Just as I was getting home this happend and it was already 1 AM ish so I didnt look real close, tomarrow Im gonna take a look at it.

I dont think this is anything serious..Just looking for a comment or two.

Thanks
Jason

First off if you were gonna put 300+ miles on your car you should have came to the WI SHO club meeting today! Just kidding, as far as your situation goes...

The oil light I have no idea it sounds unrelated but make sure to check that in the morning. The coolant problem sounds like you busted a litte hose that is in the rear of the engine. Same thing happened to me, I was pulling up to a stoplight when all the sudden white smoke was pouring out of my hood like crazy! I pulled over to see coolant dripping all over the ground. Lucky I was close to home and got there just fine, steadily watching the tempature needle rise. Anyhow...

Just take a good look at it in the morning when you have some light and be sure to let us know.

does anyone else think its possible that if you blew a hose and sprayed coolant all over the undercarriage that maybe some got in the sensor in the oil pan? sounds logical to me. especially if you say the car is smoking and it smelled like coolant, not oil smoke. just be sure to check the oil level to make sure you werent burning it up or anything. good luck and let us know how it goes!

Use your nose to tell if it is smoke or steam. If it was oil I doubt that you would be driving for long. I blew the short 3/4" hose that is before the heater core metal pipe and it was a huge cloud of steam.

Sorry, yes, the correct word is "steam" it was not smoke, but steam as tho coolant was sprayed all over my engine or anything else hot. Soon as it happened smoke poored into the car and the needle went instantly to HOT!

I dont think the hose is a big deal, its the oil light flicker Im worried about, but it has NEVER done that!

Thanks
Jason
