I know this is probably a stupid question but I just changed my oil a few nights ago and when i was done wiped the bottom of the oil pan off. I looked under the car tonight after I got home from work and the oil pan has a few droplets on the bottom. I'm checking to see if it leeks on the drive way alot or not much. I replaced my valve cover gaskets about 2 months ago and I dont have oil in the plug wells. I dont see a massive loss in oil just curious if alot of other people have this problem- is this normal?

Thanks,
Kyle

For SHOs? Pretty much. The front crank seal leaks frequently; the rear cam seal - the one that has the cam sensor on it - leaks frequently.

All told, if your SHO isn't leaking anything, I would honestly be a little concerned. That's just how it is...

That would be leak, with an "a". The oil level sensor and oil pressure light switch are also sources of leaks.

Yea it pretty rare to not have any oil leaks in a SHO. :nut:

However like hawk said the front main seal and the cam seal are good place to look. Also check the oil pan gaskets/RTV. A cam seal usually causes smoke cause it drops on the hot y-pipe. same with the front main to actually. Also check the oil level sensor as that also leak a little. Easy fix that is.

Yes.... look on the y-pipe for oil "stains" from it burning. My front main drips a tiny bit and smokes from it touching the front cat. It needs a 60k now. :(

The sensor is on the oil pan. Its on the right of the drain bolt and up a little. A little clip hold it in, so dont just pull on it.

Thanks for the info. is there anything I can do to prevent it from leaking on the y pipe if it matters or not and does your car now need a 60k because of this?

There really isn't much you can do to keep stuff from leaking on the cats and/or Y-pipe; it is very inconveniently placed. And no, it won't matter... the way I see it, the thin oil coating on everything in the engine compartment helps prevent rust!

The worst part is the embarrassment as your car starts smoking at traffic lights, though...
