I just finished this project. You DON'T HAVE TO TOUCH the timing belt, the cam chains, or even the valve covers for that matter. The cam positioning sensor is on the front of the engine on the right side, right adjacent to cylinder number 1 ...on the camshaft nearest the firewall, on the camshaft end nearest to the the passenger side.) The cam positioning sensor is held on with two 7/32 bolts. Under that is an aluminum collar held in place with two 9mm bolts. The cam position is sensed from a stamped steel collar that is screwed to the end of the camshaft You have to take off that stamped steel collar, which is held in place by two Phillips head screws, in order to get to the cam seal. I had my battery out, so that is helpful. Take out the battery and the battery tray. But, you DON"T HAVE TO take off the top timing belt cover. You DON"T HAVE TO touch the timing belt. ALL that you have to take off is (1) the cam positioning sensor; (2) the aluminum collar; (3) the stamped steel sensing collar; and (4) the seal it self. I had a metal seal that did not want to come out. A screw would not drive into the metal seal, either. But, I was able to center punch the seal, and after drilling a very small hole into it, was able to pick it out. It took the lion's share of my time getting the seal out as opposed to getting to the seal.
