has anybody tried the temporary repair that is listed in shotimes about putting high temp rtv on the well seals as a short fix, I am strapped for cash and this would do wonders for my budget if it works out for a couple weeks or so.

Thanks

Matt

P.S. anybody from toledo Ohio that could possibly help me

If you're only looking for a couple weeks of time - I would just remove what oil you can from the wells with the "spray-bottle" method. (Use the sprayer from a spray bottle to suck the oil out of the wells. Works good.)
Then in a month or so you can set aside a bit more time to fix it properly (with gaskets rather than sealent).

I'm sloppy, so if I can avoid using any kind of sealent, I do; or it goes everywhere. :)

About all you can do is actually take them out and inspect them to see what they are looking like. For me i got some slightly used ones from jelloslug and they are great. Make sure some idiot didnt put it back together and left the seals off( mine was like that)...... obviously if they arent there then u cant use rtv. If your pressed for cash then go ahead and do so....... honestly though if the leak isnt bad then id suck them dry and just keep doing that every week or so until you have the funds to put seals in. Plus tearing it apart just to do a temporary fix sucks....... Thats a good bit of work to do only to have to tear it apart again later on for seals........but im lazy :p

I agree with greenbean. Do it once, do it right. Use RTV at own risk.

If you're really strapped for cash and don't mind a little work, then go ahead and try the RTV fix. You have nothing to lose except some of your time, but you already know that. If you have to go back in at some point and do it right with new seals and valve cover gaskets, then you can cross that bridge when you get there.

Today's RTV is pretty darn good stuff. Use the right type, don't make a mess with it, and you should be OK.

You are risking your valve cover gaskets by removing the cam box covers too many times. Consider this as well, as the valve cover gaskets aren't too cheap either.
