This May be a stupid question but here goes

I have oil in my plug wells which seems to be causing misfires in overdrive, How does the oil get in the plug wells? I plan on replacing the plug seals soon. Will that be a semi-permanent solution?

Replacing the plug seals is a more semi-permanent solution that just RTV'ing the seals. They can still leak again in the future - it's not forever & ever amen, but will likely outlast your ownership of your SHO.

The Upper Gasket Set from FPN or SHO Nut is the way to go - for abour $130-140 you can get not only the plug seals, but everything else you'd ever need for your heads up gasket-wise.

If you're interested in service Matt, that's one of the many things we do, especially during the 60K services. We can either re-RTV or replace the seals completely, depending on your budget.

Good luck - you can do it!

Basically all you need to get is a valve cover gaskets set and maybe 6 gromits but that's it. the inly thing that's gonna **** is the labor. I had oil in my plug wells my Mechanics had to replace my Valve cover gaskets Intake manifold Gasket. 6 New gromits and i had to get new plugs and wires. the parts only cost about $325, but seeing how they had to work on my car for 6 hours and had to remove the top part of my engine. all in all it gost me about 730 bucks but hey no oil leak and the car ran great.

Ford sells you the grommets (plug well seals) at $28 each. Ask me how I know - my 95 has them. Or, you can buy the complete upper gasket set that includes them for $130-$140. It's cheaper to buy the full kit, and it's the same grommets.

As far as $730 parts & labor, we charge MUCH less than that for a service like that. If interested, let me know.

I also plan on installing new plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets and plug well seals. Could someone please explain the correct way to install the plug well seals and valve cover gaskets? I have read where you are suppose to use a little RTV on the plug well seals and valve cover gaskets. Just not sure where it is suppose to be used.

When you pull the covers, the gaskets will show where there is a little RTV bead at the sharp corners only.

Make sure you clean out the existing RTV beads well first.

6 hours to do the job is for a mechanic that doesn't know the SHO, and is following the shop manual, learning as he goes. I was going to suggest planning about 4 hours to do the job the first time slowly, & do it right. It goes smoother after you've done it a few times, or if you're in a "blast it out" mode.

Fred i'm very interested. Only thing is it's going to have to wait until after christmas. Also I'm buying a set of 3.0 cams to replace my intake cams. I was thinking of while your adjusting the valves (I hear a knocking) to slap those in also?

Thanks for the valve cover RTV location. That's what I suspected. As for the plug well seals, does the RTV go on both sides of the seal or just the side towards the valve cover?
