I have a 1994 SHO 3.0. The owners manual calls for 4.5 quarts yet when I change the oil, 4.5 quarts leaves me a quart short. Was there a mistake in the manual?

I have a 95 ATX and it takes 5. It reads just a bit over the top of the full line, which is fine since that allows for some burnoff.

Both the service manual and the owner's manual specify 5 quarts as "engine oil capacity with filter" for the 3.0 liter engine. Often places like Walmart or other quick oil-**** garages will put in 5.5 quarts. Probably that is so little extra that it won't do any harm, but if you put in too much oil you will whip up frothy shake that can't be good for the engine.

I use the FL1A filter...and put in 5.5 quarts. It was 5 with the "regular" filter...the fl400s or something. This is for a 3.0 MTX.
