oil and metal shavings

so i took off the intake to get to my cam sensor easier and i noticed that inside the intake runners are full of sludge,oil,metal shavings, really bad i know, hopefully itll run now with the new cam sensor, i cleaned the intake out with brake clean thats ok right?

how would metal shavings make there way up there? any help??

Maybe the previous owner tried a DIY porting job on the intake and either forgot to clean the intake or didn't fully clean it out, and now the shaving came through and stuck to the gunk.
