My 93 ATX puked all of it's tranny fluid last night, I came to a stop light, smelled burning transmission fluid, and got out and saw a nice puddle under my car..

I trailered the car home, and said i'd deal with it in the morning. I went outside this morning, checked for any obvious leaks (cooler lines, axle seal etc.)... couldnt find anything.

I started the engine, and started filling... I got about 5 quarts in, and then it started groaning extremely loud... I got to about 8 quarts, checked the dipstick and it was still slightly low... If I put it in gear, it starts howling and leaking (and it wont engage any gear at all)

I figure the trans is toast, although 24 hours ago it was shifting just fine, could this be just the tc or pump?

Yes, but whats with the howling noise and not engaging gears? It sounds awful, but I dont see it grenading like that when it was fine 24 hours ago...

No pressure is getting to the tranny, it's all leaking out the converter seal. The noise is the lack of fluid in the moving parts.

Not trying to ask a million questions, but i've pulled this ATX before, its a royal pain... If i seperate it from the motor, is there a way for me to tell whether i'm wasting my time replacing the converter and front seal?

I dont want to put it back together , have it not work, and kick myself in the a** when I have to take it out again...
