Just when i got everything working again here comes a new problem.

So Im guessing the cluster but everything else still works.

I just noticed it the other day my trip doesnt move and same with the odometer.

The speedo is the only other thing that doesnt work it used to move now it just sits there. Unless i drive for like an hour then it finds its way up to about 10mph.

Any ideas anyone.

Sounds to me like your speedometer cable is either broken or not making a solid connection.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're saying that the speedometer, odometer and trip odo are not working, right? They're all driven by the speedometer cable that goes from the top of the transmission up through the firewall and into the back of the speedo head.

In my experience, the clusters/speedo heads very rarely fail in these cars, but the speedo cables can get dry, stuck, unhooked, broken, etc. If I were you, I'd start by tracing the speedo cable under the hood and see if you can see any obvious problems there. If it's broken, you may have to remove the entire assembly to even tell for sure. IIRC, you can unhook it from the trans relatively easily, but disconnecting the other end requires that the cluster be taken out.

My SHO has an erratic speedo at time too. Mine is due to a worn speedo cable. The last SHO cruise I was on, it stopped altogether. Then it went to about 10mph, snapped to 90mph, and very slowly dropped back to 10mph.

The new cables are inexpensive.

it isn't easy but it is possible to remove it with the cluster in place. removing the metal pan on the driver's side does help as well. I'm over 6 feet tall 190 lbs and I can almost palm a basketball.

I've found that the military ID gets one out of far more speeding tickets than anything that comes out of one's mouth...

well not to prove u all wrong but i just did my speedo cable the other day and i didnt remove the cluster at all its a realy tight fit and if u have small hands u can reach right up and push the flat side of the connector with ur index finger and pull it out with the rest its not all that hard now just make sure ur not pushing the side that feels like 2 small ones only the single flat side and ur good to go

well didnt get to changing the speedo cable yet.

But today my speedo starting bouncing again around 10mph and odometer started going again but very slow.

So im guessing the odometer only works when my speedo works and works at the speed it is bouncing around at.

Yes, that's correct.

The speedometer and the odometer are both fully contained inside the speedo head, and the both take their input from the spinning (or not spinning :)) speedometer cable.

So if one is not working, the other will also probably not work. If one is reading low, the other will probably also read low. Etc.
