O2

[Bluto]

I checked the search area and found good info on the O2 sensor replacement. I went to purchase two today and they call for a 8.5" lead and a 13" lead.

From reading past posts, I thought both are supposed to be 8.5".

Are the leads diff lengths?

Do I need a O2 socket or will a 22mm combo wrench work?

From personal experience, it can be a real beautch to get the 8.5" lead connected from the front O2 connector on an ATX. MTX is a totally different story. The back is a piece of cake on either.

Rumor has it it's easier to get the longer lead for the front and tie the excess wire after connecting so it doesn't get in the way of anything.

You could use AutoZone's Loan-A-Tool program to get the O2 socket, cost is $0. Much easier job, especially if yours are seized in the y-pipe.

I just replaced my o2 sensors last week and i used the 8.5 leads for both. it real easy to do what i did on the front sensor just jack up the car and it right there that ones a piece of cake but the rear one well what i did for that one was i layed a soft towell or a old sweatshirt ontop of the motor and layed my body on the motor head facing towards the driverside and i reached my left arm down between the back of the motor and fire wall and just put the wrench on it it was real simple you can see the sensor by laying on the motor with a flash light if you cant do it from the bottom wich i couldent try this way.

13" and 8.5" or use both 8.5" on an ATX?

This is a statement, not an opinion: the factory supplied oxygen sensors, both front and rear, have an 8.5" lead for both the 3.0L and the 3.2L SHO engines.

SPADTT I WRIGHT WHEN I GOT MINE AUTOZONE THOSE WERE THE ONLY ONES THEY HAD.PLUS THEY WORK GREAT.

Actualy I went to Advance auto, and they had 3 lengths listed for the SHO. They only carry one 8.5". So I stopped at a Dealership and they said 8.5" and 13". I believe Scott before a dealership.

Not to mention they wanted 127 for one and 97 for the other.

I found Bosch is only 45 each.

Just an update.
My car was driving a little sluggish with CE light on/off all the time.

Today the car barely made it home from a 100 mile drive.

I went to Advance auto bought two Bosch 15716 with 8.5" leads.(45.74ea)

They were easy to change, and fixed the problem.
The car runs great.

It had the original Ford sensors in it. They are much thinner than the Bosch. I was suprised to see how much bigger the Bosch is.
