Is there a difference between the front and back O2 sensors besides length of the wires... i needed a front one and the guy at the counter sold me the longer one (which of course was more expensive) i searched but couldnt find a yes or no answer...

There's a difference between the ATX and MTX sensors, but front to back in either are the same.

Yup. ATX is a 4 pin connector, while the MTX is a 3 pin.

one question i got on a side not is what is the difference for the 3 wire and 4 wire?
i noticed the 3 wire to 4 wire difference when i did my atx to mtx swap. the inside looks a little different but does this make a performance difference or gas milage difference or anything?

I honestly couldn't tell you the difference, other then each being MTX, or ATX specific. The only thing that really comes to mind would be because of the difference in wiring harnesses?

The difference is the heater circuit.

The three wire systems use the body of the sensor for ground and have the heater power switched to it when required.

The 4-wire sensors have both a hot and a return line for the heater. The hot wire is usually always hot in RUN and the low side of the heater is switched by the PCM.

They are not interchangeble.

Also I found out when I needed a sensor for mine. Any 4 wire will work. I did alot of referencing from someone on Ebays link. I think I swiped all the front sensors in the Tauruii at the yard I went to before I moved... I didn't have alot of cash (still don't) and it was economical for me...
