on long rides on the highway i would get a cel only after around 90 or 100miles and it would come on for a min then go off then back on till i pulled over or got off the highway and shut off the car. i ran the codes i got 176 and 177. i changed both o2s and now after only 5 mins of highway driving i get the cel back and the codes are 172 and 173. i only get them on the highway nothing on side roads. when i ran the codes again the 172 173 were only stored keoe i got 111. and ideas on whats going on?

edit by the way its a 94 atx with 100k

Did you clear the codes after installing the new sensors? Make sure you clear them, then anything else you get will be what's new. If you still have o2 sensor codes and have replaced them already, it's going to be something else that is causing your car to run lean/rich, as both sensors are indicating it.

i disconnected the battery for a while then just to make sure i ran the codes and got 111 so i know they were all cleared. it was only one o2 that was giving me codes, first it was the front then after i changed them it was the back o2 that gave me codes

Did you hook the new sensor up in the rear?

any other ideas on what might be going on? what else would cause the o2's to turn on the cel other than them being bad?

Rich or lean conditions are what trigger the lights beside a bad o2.

Did you install new sensors or used ones? What brand are they?

I had a lean condition for a LONG time. Turned out to be the Borg Warner O2 sensors I put in. I swapped those with Bosch units and it was fine.

brand new bosch 15717 from autozone

Possibly a dud from the start. You should at least have the 3 months standard warranty from AutoZone, take the rear one back and ask for an exchange. They could've been damaged when handled by the store, as dropping them from the shelf can ruin them. The sensors need to be handled carefully and not banged around.
