I just got my 94 MTX this week (I'm in love) but have been a fan for a while. It seems to pretty well maintianed, my guess is 60K was never done though, I can hear the valves. I'll be doing that within the next few weeks but I've noticed below 2500 I have nothing, the car falls flat on it's face. Is this because of the power range or maybe do I have some sort of problem. No check engine, runs pretty smooth, There is some hesitation at like 4500 but than she takes off. I think it just needs a good old tune up and some injection cleaner. Let me know what you think, thanks!!

Make certain the secondaries are closing at idle.

Of course, old, crappy wires could explain a lot of it, especially if there is oill in any of the plug wells.

Have you got a chance to run the codes on the car yet? The car definitely shouldn't fall flat on it's face under 2500rpm. There's something amiss with it, more than just the MAF.

Just what do you mean by nothing below 2500? The yamahammer, even a perfectly running one doesn't pull very well before 3 grand. Actually it doesn't really start working until 4 grand when the secondaries open. If you are used to v-8s or other torquey v-6s, you will think something is wrong.

As for the bad wires, I had that problem as well, and in my case and apparently a lot of others, it is characterized by the engine missing in the 3 grand range. If the performance is smooth, I would guess that plugs are not the culprit.

Like others have said, this car really doesn't come alive until at least over 3200 rpms.. For power restoring maintenence, I would do the following:

Fuel Filter
Plugs
Plug Wires
Oil Change
Cooling System Flush
New Thermostat
Clean all Sensors
Clean Intake
Check/Replace Air Filter

After all done fill up with a good tank of gas and through in a bottle of good fuel system cleaner.

I know some of the stuff listed wasn't power restoring but it is good maintenence. Before doing plugs or wires, if you have any oil in the wells I would do the valve cover gaskets especially since you'll be pulling th intake to clean and are replacing the plugs and wires which require IMO the intake off.
