I was just wondering if there was anywhere to get the loaded caliper/bracket package besides Advance. The nearest Advance is in Texas (I'm in AZ), and I think with the cost of gas prices, I might as well buy the stuff from Ford  I've heard stories of NAPA carrying something similar, but there seems to be a lot of problems with getting the wrong parts.

Thanks a lot for the info, I had no idea they were the same company (you would think they'd mention it on their website  )
I just got back, and holy crap! I thought the 96 upgrade was supposed to be the cheap alternative. $60 /side for the loaded calipers (Cardone), and a $60 core charge /side :headbang: . Then $50 /side for the Raybestos PG rotors. $380 already! I got the knuckles from Al Fitz for $100 shipped, so that brings my total to $480 and I haven't ordered the Earl's brake lines, speedbleeders, or the PF carbon pads. Wow.
I hope it's worth it in the end (I actually decided to do it because my front bearings are shot, so why not upgrade? :D )
Is it worth it guys (and gals)?
Oh yeah, I just read the horror story on them not fitting under all aftermarket 16" rims. If they don't fit under mine, it's finally time to invest in some new rims as well :-/
Finally, can I use my old stuff for the core charge (I have some extra 92 calipers & brackets laying around ? :evil_gri: )

I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to use them as cores - although you may not want to take them in at the same time... If they look at both and say "these aren't the same" you may lose out on the core refund.

True, when I did that with my starter, they just took the new one out of the box, and put my core in it. So, I'm guessing they'd do the same with these.
I really don't want to miss out on that $120 ;)

The cheaper alternative is to learn how to preserve the brakes.

my 96 upgrade with Cobra calipers cost me $350. 250 for the calipers and brackets, 40 for the knuckles, and 60 for the rotors. modification is required to the brackets, which i have perfected.

Skip the speed bleeders and get the power bleeder from Motive products http://www.motiveproducts.com/02bleeders.html
I've had a few problems with getting the correct thread sizes with the Russell brand and it mucked up my expensive Baer caliper. :madflame:
This brings up another good question, I'm pretty sure the 94-95 SHO ss lines from Earl's fit the 96 upgrade with a minor adjustment, right? But, what bleeders do I get? Do the SB1010S as prescribed by speedbleeder.com fit correctly?
The Motiveproducts bleeder looks interesting, but I don't see exactly how it works...Does it pump new fluid through the system or what?

Yes. The motive product pumps new fluid through the system. The advantage is you can get adapters to use on multiple cars and screw fitment becomes a non issue. Plus it really is a one man operation and removes pedal pumping so you can keep a good eye on the stuff coming out.

Try checking into 01+ sable/taurus. Their brake parts are the same as the 96 SHO. My 01 Sable caliper bracket has FN74 on it so it is the right one.

wow, back from the dead...
Does anybody know if the hardware (i.e. caliper bracket to knuckle, lower pinch, upper pinch, axle nuts) are available through the dealer? They are the same from 91-95, no?

Yeah, normally I'd be like you, but this car is sort of a restoration project for me. Everything on it is old, it's time to start replacing with new (or refurbished, I'm still cheap).

Man, your junkyards are expensive! With new pads and rotors(and the knuckles, calipers, and brackets) I'll only be spending $150! And I get to keep the 94-95 upgrade rotors, pads and brackets! Just in case I'm going to the track and need that extra inch smaller rim. ;)
