after cutting my shifter down about 4 inchs and installing my new momo shift ****($0) i had to take my sho out for a spin to try it out. shifts beatifully, cant even tell its a cable shifter. then i pull up and out rolls the white smoke. pop my hood and im hoping if just blown a hose. no such luck, theres steam blowing from the top of my radiator as the coolant drips out puddling under my car headbang madflame .and i dont have 200 bucks for a new one. im hoping to pick one up from a junkyard. are all v6 versions interchangeable? unless theres some nice person out there who just has one they can part with wink . how hard is it to change the radiator out on a first gen mtx? i finally got everyhting fixed and running right and i blow up my radiator on a 10 minute drive.

Coincidentally, I just paypal'd a classified that included a used but excellent condition radiator for an MTX. $25+ shipping and she is all yours. I removed it to make room for a SHO Shop double core radiator.

Damn you again Dave!! headbang rant  How do you do it? wink
Man, if you part that car out it is going to be a **** of a shame. I know they are worth more that way, but yours is in such great condition.

I did notice that these radiators in these cars are mostly plastic.. I dont like that idea.. However, Im certainly no expert, but in a general rule I would say this..

Junkyard a used one, and then save some money for a nice copper or aluminum (sp) radiator.. I think that would be the way to go..

*edit n/m the experts jump all over this before I could get my 2 cents in* heh..

you know honestly now htat imn thinkin about it, i dont know what happened. im sure you all have seen the pics of my first attempt at a grill. so i know it had plenty of airflow, and its like 40 degrees outside.it never showed any signs of overheating. and while i was getting on it a little, i still didnt abuse it as much as i have in the past. so i guess in short, WHAT THE #%@# HAPPENED!! id like to go kick it but then id have one more dent to fix.i normally go driving to blow off steam, kind of ironic now that i look at it.i dotn think i even have money for coolant.

Ouch. $27.00 for 7 day ground. I would call it $50 even with shipping. I wish I could help you out a little more, but any cheaper and I will lose money on the deal.

ha! ha!

The radiator cap is made better than the radiator!

SHO radiator are infamous for springing leaks where the plastic and metal seams are crimped together.

You can buy a new radiator, some with a lifetime replacement warranty, from many sources for $105-$150.

Go Dan Inc. (GDI) 43-2192, Pep Boys (LT warr), $149.99
Go Dan Inc. 43-2192, RockAuto.com, $127.79
3.0L Spectra 1094, RockAuto.com, $105.79

Here in MI (at Autozone) new radiators run about $70. I used an ATX radiator on my MTX car with no problems. Only difference really is that there are no tranny cooling lines to plug into the radiator.

For once...something is cheaper in MI. eek!

i really appreciate the help. 50 bucks would be a lot more doable right now. i just need a couple days to scrape my money together. in the mean time do you think radiator stop leak might help?i know i need to replace it but if i could still drive it this week it would be a lot easier on me.

If it's cracked in the plastic end tank of the radiator nothing will stop it from leaking. Sorry. :(

If it's any consolation at all, the MTX radiator is a breeze to install.

As mentioned by others, before you consider the hassle of $50 for a used radiator that will go bad eventually, consider www.radiator.com. A new MTX radiator shipped to your door with a lifetime warranty is $127. These guys dont screw around either. If the radiator goes bad, they overnight you another one. You can scrap $77 extra dollars together.

I have had perfectly good radiators go south simply by changing the fluid. I would hate to see you waste any money only to find you are in the same boat due to a tank/seam leak after install.

Think about the peace of mind you get for the additional $77
