Noisey Valvetrain

hey guys i have a noisey valvetrain it sounds like a loud ticking sound. the noise changes with rpms......does this mean i need to do shims on my car or is there another problem?.......the car has 116xxx on it if u guys could help i would apreciate it

Might just be noisy injectors. I am having the same "problem".

The only way I know to tell is to check the shim gaps. But yes. To answer your question, you should be able to do shims to quiet the valvetrain.

Replace them. A 60k is easier.

The good news is that a noisy injector still operates just fine....

If it is that noisy, you'll want to not only check the gaps, but inspect the cam lobes and the upper shim surfaces on all 24 of the valves. The engine has probably never had a valve gap adjustment performed. Below are a couple shots of the cam lobes on my engine during its valve gapping at 344,249 miles. The blue shop towel is a safety barrier stuffed into one of the four oil return holes in the valve gallery. I will send you a detailed procedure for the teardown, valve gap adjustment and reassembly if you send me a PM with your email address. Castrol GTX baby!

You can wait as long as you want, but you can't prevent the damages that may occur during that time.
